Hi everyone! Today we're taking you to a vintage-style cafe in Bangkok's old town. It's easy to get to, and if you love taking photos or you're into all things vintage, don't miss Trok Khrut Cafe.

With the weekend coming up, if you're looking for somewhere to relax, sip coffee, take photos or just enjoy a laid-back meal, this is the place to try. Trok Khrut Cafe sits between the Tiger God Shrine (San Chao Pho Suea) and the Garuda shrine near the Giant Swing. The shop is an old shophouse more than 40 years old that has been renovated and decorated in vintage style, and the second floor has an outdoor seating area too. It's a cafe, a bar and a restaurant all in one – everything you need under one roof.

The food at Trok Khrut Cafe is fusion. Some of you might think fusion dishes never taste as good as the originals, but we have to say the fusion food here is done really well and holds its own against traditional dishes.

The menu covers many styles – Thai, Japanese, pasta, salads and main courses. This time we ordered the crispy soft-shell crab spaghetti, mixed fries and the scallop cream sauce fettuccine.

Crispy soft-shell crab spaghetti

Our first dish was spaghetti topped with a big, crunchy piece of fried soft-shell crab. The noodles are cooked perfectly soft and tossed with fried chilies for an extra kick – a true Thai-Western fusion that comes together beautifully. Eat it with the fried chilies served on the plate and it gets even better. Seriously satisfying.

Scallop cream sauce fettuccine

Since we wanted to try more of the menu, we also ordered the scallop cream sauce fettuccine – and we fell in love with it. It's perfect for people who prefer mild, non-spicy food. The pasta is nicely chewy, served with big, firm scallops, and the cream sauce is tasty without being too heavy. If you don't eat spicy food, this one is a must.

Mixed fries

Next up is an appetizer that everyone who comes here seems to order: the mixed fries. Big chunks of potato, crispy outside and soft inside – a great starter. The batter is lightly salted and pairs perfectly with the natural sweetness of the potato.

Rose and lychee kombucha

On to drinks: we tried the rose and lychee kombucha, served as a hot tea. It's very good – well balanced, fragrant with rose, refreshing, with a light sourness from the lychee that cuts through the richness of the other dishes nicely.

Besides the vintage decor, the cafe also pays attention to keeping the concept going with its tableware. If you want to soak up a relaxed atmosphere, head to the second-floor outdoor zone – the vibe is great. Best of all, it's easy to get to, and there's parking too.
