Many of you love Chinese food, right? Today we are taking everyone to JinLong House at Central Westgate. When it comes to modern-style Chinese food, they really deliver, with full, punchy flavours. Once you try it, you will definitely be back. Let's take a look.

The restaurant
The owners have recreated the feel of a modern Chinese inn while keeping a traditional Chinese touch, a nice little gimmick. The dining room is a comfortable size and never feels cramped. JinLong House was founded out of the founder's personal love of Chinese food. This kind of food is getting harder to find, and when you eat out with friends or family you can usually only order a few dishes, because Chinese dishes tend to be large and fairly expensive. So the team wanted a Chinese restaurant that everyone can enjoy easily on all kinds of occasions. Another highlight is the head chef, with more than 40 years of experience in famous hotel restaurants in Hong Kong and Thailand. Impressive, and the flavour does not disappoint.

What we ate
The dish we came for, because everyone says it numbs your tongue, is the super-spicy mala fried chicken, 99 baht, served with free-refill chrysanthemum tea. The chicken is topped with chilli and garlic, nicely crunchy outside and tender inside; they clearly know how to fry chicken. As for the promised heat and numbness, honestly it was not very spicy or numbing for us, because the chicken itself does not carry much of the chilli, which does not soak in.
Other dishes are good too. The restaurant's specialities include salt-and-pepper tofu, mapo tofu rice, JinLong fried noodles, braised pork belly (khao yok), mapo aubergine, green beans with fermented soybean and minced pork, mala fried chicken, salt-and-pepper soft-shell prawns and stir-fried pork with spring onion. Once you know this place, you will keep coming back.

We left full and happy. If you would like to try Chinese food fit for an emperor, head to the 3rd floor of Central Westgate. You can also order delivery through Grab.
