What we ate

The food is very good. Here is what we had.

  • Grandma's pork with salted fish (moo kulao khun ya): the dish every table orders on a first visit, and our first time trying it. It is best with steamed rice and a squeeze of lime. If you are not sure about it, ask the staff, who are very friendly and give helpful advice. Your hands may get a little messy, but that is no problem. Think of minced pork stir-fried with salted fish, eaten with shallots, chilli and lime: full-flavoured.
  • Hoi jor (crab rolls): delicious, served with a dipping sauce poured over both pieces. Tasty even on its own.
  • Clear tom yum fish soup: very fiery and tangy. We loved it. The broth has fish, straw mushrooms and oyster mushrooms. Sipping it with steamed rice is wonderful.
  • Squid stir-fried with garlic and pepper: tasty and fragrant with garlic, served with plenty of fresh vegetables.
  • Prawns stir-fried with stink beans and shrimp paste: looks fiery and tastes great, with fresh sato beans and a rich, savoury flavour. Very hard to stop eating.

Ko Mark Restaurant: A Must-Try Seafood Spot in Hua Hin 4

We were impressed today. Ordering was easy, the wait was short and dishes came out quickly. There is a big menu and we tried a lot of it. We liked every dish, but the standout was Grandma's pork with salted fish, which we tried for the first time and which is also the house recommendation. Everything was delicious, and not just because we were hungry. Everyone at the table agreed the food at Ko Mark is excellent.

Prices are standard and acceptable, not too steep. If you are looking for a Hua Hin restaurant that is reasonably priced and on a main road, Ko Mark is a great choice. Do book ahead though, because it gets very busy, especially on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you are driving, you can park in front of the restaurant, and there is a car park beside it. The restaurant is easy to spot, painted a striking blue. There are two seating areas, an air-conditioned room and an outdoor area. On a hot afternoon like ours, we chose to sit inside in the air-conditioning.
